What is CALAMINE/ZINC OXIDE?

(CALAMINE/ZINC OXIDE) This medication is used to relieve pain, itching, and discomfort from minor skin irritations such as poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. It also helps to dry the oozing and weeping caused by irritation due to these plants.

How should I use CALAMINE/ZINC OXIDE?

Use this medication on the skin only. Follow all directions on the product package, or use as directed by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before using. Apply the medication with a cotton pad, and allow the medication to dry on the skin. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Avoid getting this medication in the eyes, mouth, nose, and genital/anal areas. If you do get the medication in those areas, flush with plenty of water. Tell your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve within 7 days.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take CALAMINE/ZINC OXIDE?

Before using calamine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: skin irritation. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. Where should I keep CALAMINE/ZINC OXIDE?

Refer to storage information printed on the package. If you have any questions about storage, ask your pharmacist. Keep all medications away from children and pets. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.
