What is CERTAVITE SENIOR?
(CERTAVITE SENIOR) This combination of vitamins and selected minerals is used to prevent or treat vitamin deficiency due to poor eating habits, problems that affect the body's ability to absorb nutrition from food, or increased need for vitamins and minerals due to stress or illness. Vitamins are needed for the body to function well. This vitamin/mineral combination contains high levels of B vitamins (such as folic acid, niacin, B-1, B-2, B-6, and B-12) and vitamin C. It also contains other vitamins (A, D, and E) and minerals such as zinc. This medication does not contain iron and has only a small amount of calcium. It should not be used to treat "iron-poor" blood (anemia) or to prevent osteoporosis.
How should I use CERTAVITE SENIOR?
Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily. If stomach upset occurs, it may help to take this product with food. Take this medication 2 to 3 hours before or after taking certain antibiotics (including tetracyclines, quinolones such as ciprofloxacin). The minerals in this product may interfere with the antibiotic, preventing it from being absorbed.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take CERTAVITE SENIOR?
Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to any of its ingredients such as folic acid; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. This product should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this product, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: low blood count (such as pernicious anemia, megaloblastic anemia, vitamin B-12 deficiency), high calcium levels, kidney disease, liver disease. This medication is not recommended for use in children under 12 because of increased risk of some vitamins/minerals building up to harmful levels in the body. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
What may interact with CERTAVITE SENIOR?
Your healthcare professionals (such as your doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first. This product should not be used with the following medications because a very serious interaction may occur: altretamine, cisplatin, levodopa. If you are currently using any of the medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting this multivitamin. Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: hydantoins (such as phenytoin), methotrexate, pyrimethamine, other vitamin/mineral/nutritional supplements. What if I miss a dose of CERTAVITE SENIOR?
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
What side effects may I notice from receiving CERTAVITE SENIOR?
Nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, flushing and unpleasant taste may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, remember that your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these highly unlikely but serious side effects occur: mental/mood changes, unusual weakness. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. Where should I keep CERTAVITE SENIOR?
Store tightly closed at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep all medicines away from children and pets. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.
