What is XEPI?

(XEPI) Ozenoxacin is used to treat a certain skin infection (impetigo). This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria.

How should I use XEPI?

Use this medication only on the skin. Clean and dry the affected area first. Then apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area as directed by your doctor, usually twice a day. You may cover the treated area with a bandage or gauze. Wash your hands after applying the medication unless you are treating an area on your hands. Avoid using this medication around your eyes, nose, mouth, or inside the vagina. If the medication gets in these areas, wipe off the cream and rinse well with plenty of water. Do not use on large areas of skin unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Continue to use it for the full time prescribed, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection. Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better in 3 days.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take XEPI?

Before using ozenoxacin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products). During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

What may interact with XEPI?

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval.

What if I miss a dose of XEPI?

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

What side effects may I notice from receiving XEPI?

Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a new skin infection caused by fungus or yeast or other bacteria. Tell your doctor right away if you notice signs of a new infection, or if your current infection does not get better or if it gets worse. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. Where should I keep XEPI?

Different brands of this medication have different storage needs. Check the product package for instructions on how to store your brand, or ask your pharmacist. Keep all medications away from children and pets. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
